Placement prints

Placement prints are developed directly in relation to the garment. I start by considering the silhouette, construction and key areas of the piece, then build the artwork around the pattern so each element has a specific purpose and position.
The process can begin with a hand-painted or hand-drawn study, which I develop digitally, or start entirely in Photoshop, Illustrator or Procreate. I also use AI tools during the exploration stage when they can help generate, transform or test visual directions. From there, I refine the artwork, scale, colour and composition, checking how the print interacts across seams and individual pattern pieces.
The final artwork is then prepared as a production-ready file, with the placement mapped to the garment and colourways developed when needed. The goal is for the print and the garment to work as one visual composition rather than as separate elements.
